CII offered to train and skill 25 nationals from Afghanistan on the power tool skill useful for construction industry. This was proposed to be a beginning of a continuing engagement between India and Afghanistan; the CII and the people of Afghanistan.

A CII – City & Guilds team selected the 25 candidates in Kabul; the Indian Embassy in Kabul and the Afghanistan Labour Ministry supported the selection process. The names of the shortlisted candidates who arrived in India for training are as per annexure A. The age group varied from 18 to 45 and education qualification from zero to 12. The work experience was from zero to a few years. Some of them had undergone vocational course upto 4 months from various institutes. A few of them were even self-employed.

The 15 days training programme was run at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Industrial Training, Delhi. In this CII’s implementation partner was Mico Bocsh. The training focused on use of hand power tools in construction. The emphasis was on multi skilling in the fields of:

  • Carpentry
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical Wiring
