22nd National Work-Skills Competition at FTI Bengaluru

CII organized 22nd National Work Skills Competition (NWSC) in FTI Bengaluru from 24th-27th March 2010 in association with the DGET, Ministry of Labour and Employment. CII initiated national Work skills competition on the lines of the Skills Olympics organized by the industry in Europe. It was held for the first time in 1989 at the Advanced Training Institute, Dasnagar, Howrah. CII was the first one to recognize the importance of skilled workers and need to develop skilled labour pool in India thus it started this event.

NWSC this year saw participation from leading companies such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hindalco, SAIL, Tata Steel, NTTF, ITC Ltd, Hero Honda Gurgaon, SRF Ltd, Caterpillar India, Nestle India, Godrej & Boyce to name a few.

The 2009 Regional Skills Competition was conducted from 07-09 December 2009 under the respective Regional Centers in Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune. 381 competitors took part in the regional levels out of which 95 made it to the National Competitions in the age category of less than 22 years (Category 1) and above 22 years (Category –2) in the industrial skills like Electrician, Industrial Electronics, Fitter, Miller, Turner, Tool & Die Maker, Welder, Instrument Mechanic and COPA. 32 participants won first and second prizes in above-mentioned categories.
